My workplace is called Creative Minds, and it is a day care for young children. It is a small business. In the morning there are usually 3 - 4 children from the age of 1 - 4. At 3pm when children are released from school, the day care increases to 3 other children. By the time my shift is over, there are 7+ kids. My work place is located in North Hayward behind the BART station, its in a home. Not including me, there is always at least 2 people working. My work place is like a family business, the people that work there are family, and some kids are family as well. From my understanding, they have or are attending college. My work place serves as a place to have your children watched when you have to go to work or school.  Some strength is that my work place is family, they're all trusted within each other, its fun, and great relationships are created. As for weaknesses, there really aren't any.

My mentors name is Deanna Owens and she is a child care provider. They're typical day is basically in the morning, she watches 2-3 kids and later as the day progresses the children increase at least another 3. She does activities with the kids, makes them lunch, puts them to sleep, and much more. From my understanding, Deanna has been involved with kids for quite a while. She was a kids teacher a chabot college before. From what she has told she enjoys kids, and the kids she watches become or feel like the kids are her own.

My main responsibility is basically like what DD does. Watch and care for the kids, feed them, and assist them all through out the day. Help them with activities and supervising them outside. Each week I have the same task, its really all on what the kids want. I watch them, play with them, feed them, put them to bed, and feed them snacks. Each day goes the same. I arrive at my internship at 9 am. I get there greet the kids and my mentor, sit on the couch and watch children shows with them. Later on I sit down with them and do the activity. Before lunch, we go outside, let them get they're energy out. We come in, have lunch. After lunch they wash up and use the restroom while a set up there beds. After they wake up, I feed them lunch and soon after that my day is over.

As a project, I am planning on taking pictures and creating a poster board. On the poster board there will be different data of each kid, and maybe some projects I did with them. Well because I worked at a daycare with small children, there really wasnt much I could do. I might set up a lesson and just go by data on that. Doing this project should be a lot of fun, the kids are fun to be around and are always a great time. A quick brainstorm, take pictures, set up a lesson, take data, put it on a poster board.

Today at my WLE I did the same as usual. I watch and interact with the kids until lunch time, feed them, have them clean up, put them to bed, wake up, give the snacks, and my day is over. Me and mentor had discussed about my project already, and we came to a conclusion that my project would be based on me being a father figure to the kids since they dont have one. I haven't accomplished anything yet, I'm about to start my project though.

The leadership skill that I am using the most is Critical Thinking. Trying to create a project from being a father figure is difficult, so thinking of one is causing problems. As for my WLE the leadership skill I am using the most is collaborating productively. All day I work with kids, and to be successful with them, you need to communicate and interact with them. I believe I am being successful with the kids. 90% of the time they listen to what I tell them, and we have a good time. It helps me with my WLE because in order to work with kids you need to COMMUNICATE & INTERACT. My mentor uses thinking critically and collaborating productively. She thinks of new ideas I can do with the kids, communicates to me and sometimes takes part in it with us.

With this WLE experience I learned that I can work with kids. For 8 hours of my tuesdays, I work with kids. They are a great time and a lot of fun. I have developed a lot of patience that I didn't have before. Some problems that came up where dealing with the kids all day. They are very energetic and never want to take a break. Also on some days they wouldn't listen to me a much. I over came it by thinking about the positive time I've had with them, also nap time helped me because when we woke up they where calmed down and a lot more listening. My creativity was used in he WLE because I would come up with games and project/activities I would do with the kids. I thought working with kids all day was gonna be a lot of fun and not as hard of a job, but in reality it is a lot of fun but sometimes it takes a lot of hard work and patience. If someone asked me what was important about my WLE, I would tell them that creating good relationships with the kids and being loving and open to kids is probably the most important thing at my WLE. Everything I learned in my WLE will help me in the future because someday I will have kids of my own and I will already have an experience working with young children and will probably have more patience than my baby momma.
